As a specialist in psychiatry and psychotherapy at Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin, CBF, and as a senior physician, Erich Hahn continues to be active in both scientific and clinical capacities. He serves as the scientific co-leader of the research area Psychotic Disorders (with PD Dr. Kerem Böge) and co-leader of the Global Mental Health working group at Charité. Together with PD Dr. Tam Ta, he is a co-founder of the special outpatient clinic and the psychosocial network for mental health for Vietnamese migrants at Charité. His research focus lies in the application-oriented implementation of scientific results to strengthen healthcare in countries of the Global South and the development of scientific capacities in partner countries. His scientific interests include international stigma and attitude research, research with patients with psychotic disorders, the development of innovative care structures, as well as the diversification of the database for (epi)genetic and clinical foundations of mental disorders. In 2022, Erich Hahn was awarded an honorary professorship in psychiatry by Hanoi Medical University in Vietnam.

His research efforts extend to the establishment of scientific infrastructure in the field of Global Mental Health for stigma and attitude research, starting from Vietnam, Ghana, India, with scalability to other countries of the Global South. Erich Hahn is involved in the development of application-oriented interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary research designs with participant and community involvement, both in the context of Global Mental Health on-site, involving migrant communities and the diaspora, as well as in networking and transfer to the countries of origin. He actively contributes to the establishment of an international network for health research and IZ funding, especially within the framework of clinic partnerships, GIZ, GHHG, the field of psychotic disorders (in cooperation with PD Böge), and research networks related to IZ projects at Charité (especially Ukraine, in cooperation with Prof. Bajbouj), Vietnam, and ongoing efforts in Sub-Saharan Africa. Erich Hahn's integration of research in Vietnam includes long-term networking activities, including the diversification of psychiatric genetics and genomics research in collaboration with international consortia (USA, Prof. Ripke CCM).
